| "Creative attention must be devoted to involving them in programmes of activity that will engage their interests, enhance their moral and spiritual empowerment at this critical stage of life, mould their capacities for service to humanity, and involve them in social interaction with older youth." |
junior
youth This is a critical age when an individual passes from childhood to youth and is characterized by rapid physical, emotional, intellectual and behavioural changes. They begin to reflect more seriously on who they will be when they are older. Moreover, they begin to consciously form a self-image, ask for respect, and wish to be treated as someone who has something to offer. This programme of junior youth courses has been developed over many years and aims to nurture the power of expression and empower the junior youth to make positive choices in their lives. The courses are six to eight months in duration and involve the use of books specific to the developmental needs of the age group. The books use exercises that build vocabulary, strengthen literacy and comprehension, thereby enhancing their ability to communicate effectively. The courses are combined with service and community projects, social activities, and the use of the arts in various forms. The courses are facilitated by trained 'Animators' |
